Lincoln Farms’ pair drawn to give cheek over mile - and Andre’s plumped for Wingy
They’re at too much of a disadvantage in the ratings to label as winners but Bettor My Dreamz and Just Wing It both look chances at Auckland on Friday night, courtesy of their draws.
Lincoln Farms’ in-form stablemates have drawn one and two in the second race on mile night at Alexandra Park, giving them a real edge over the sprint trip.
It would be a brave punter to say Bettor My Dreamz (rating 69) and Just Wing It (70) can down Juice Brodgen (90), Check In (92) and Dance Time (94), especially after Dance Time punched their clocks at the workouts last Saturday.
But given they should both enjoy sweet trips, it’s not hard to make a case for both of them to be in the money.
Bettor My Dreamz was very impressive winning at his last start. PHOTO: Joel Gillan/Race Images. It’s a big step-up in class for Bettor My Dreamz, who beat a rating 58 to 65 field at his last start, but trainer Ray Green doesn’t believe he will be disgraced.
“I think he’s a chance,’’ says Green. “He’s had only a handful of starts but I don’t think they’re much better than him, a bit more experienced perhaps. But he’s an improver and he’ll be up to those horses.”
Bettor My Dreamz trialled nicely at Pukekohe last Saturday, in the hands of David Butcher, running second to Dance Time.
“David said he felt improved, and a bit more alert than he has been.”
But not surprisingly Butcher has opted to drive Dance Time on Friday night, leaving the seat vacant for stable junior Andrew Drake.
Andre chooses Just Wing It
And that’s because Andre Poutama has opted to be on Just Wing It, whom he drove to win a rating 62 to 69 race at his last start on July 5.
“Andre’s keen on him - he could have driven the other horse - so we’ll see what sort of a judge he is,” says Green.
Andre Poutama has chosen to drive Just Wing It over Bettor My Dreamz - “We’ll see what sort of judge he is,” says trainer Ray Green.Poutama has been mightily impressed with Just Wing It after driving him at the workouts in the last two weeks.
The five-year-old has been pacing much better than he used to, gone the one legged spreader which was once needed to stop him hitting his knees.
And Green suspects the vet work he has had done has really made a difference to the horse whom he always believed could go to a new level if he ever got him right.
While only fourth behind Dance Time, Bettor My Dreamz and Bettorstartdreaming last Saturday, Poutama declared him to be right “on point” and said all he wanted was a good draw - which he now has.
Lincoln Farms’ two other runners, Sir Tiger (race five) and The Empress (race seven) don’t have easy draws, both stuck on the inside of the second row.
For Sir Tiger that means he will probably end up buried on the markers as the pole marker looks set to be crossed and from there he will struggle.
“He’s done a great job so far but he’s jumping up in class and he’ll be up against it from now on.
“He just lacks a yard of speed.”
The Empress striding out at the Pukekohe workouts. The Empress, on the other hand, could fluke a sweet trailing trip with pole runner Cheddar’s Princess very quick out of the arm.
John and Josh Dickie’s mare hasn’t raced since the Great Northern Oaks in February when, from gate one she held all her rivals early with a great turn of speed.
Green expects The Empress to go very well given some luck. At her last start she was collared only late, finishing two lengths behind Bettor My Dreamz, after doing a power of early work, three wide to park then lead in a fast 41.9 lead time.
“There’s not a lot between her and Bettor My Dreamz. She’s a lovely mare.”

Thursday night at Cambridge
Race 1: Whats Up The Hill
4.59pm
“Fergie wasn’t exuding praise for him after his last start when he galloped away. But we’ve taken everything off him this time, no half hopples, no fixed deafeners, and that’s the same as when he won at Auckland last prep.”
Race 5: Lincoln La Moose
6.45pm
“The winner had it handed to him last time, when he went only 2:45.9, and that meant he outsprinted our boy with a 56.3 last half. When we won the previous week he went 2:40. He likes to roll along, so it will be tempo dependent. It’s his first go from a stand and only second at 2700 metres so we’ll find out if he likes it.”

Friday night at Auckland
Race 3: Debbie Lincoln
6.49pm
“We’ve never really tried to leave the gate with her but, from the inside draw, she has the advantage and should lead or trail. You’d have to say on her last run she’s the best chance of our trio.”
Race 3: Sugar Ray Lincoln
6.49pm
“He’s thriving and looking very well. He was only just beaten last time and, from two, should get every chance.”
Race 3: Kevin Kline
6.49pm
“His closing sectionals were very fast last week and he never goes a bad race. The draw isn’t as desirable, but the small field helps.”
Race 4: Tyson
7.21pm
“He had to do a lot of work last week. You can never count him out because he’s so tough.”
