$1 million can’t buy impressive Lincoln Falls
Agents chasing super impressive debut winner Lincoln Falls will need to come up with a lot more than a million dollars to wrest the colt from Lincoln Farms’ owner John Street.
The Dundeel colt lived up to a huge wrap when he romped home, ears pricked, at Woodville last Friday, despite being trapped wide early.
The performance only franked the impression Lincoln Falls had made in winning his only two trials, one agent talking one million dollars after the latest.
But Street says he and his partners Chris Grace and Kevin Pratt aren’t likely to part with the horse unless someone offers a price impossible to refuse.
“I could get a million for him tomorrow. But it would be nice to have a really good horse that we could take to the 2000 Guineas.
“And if he won a Group race in Australia all of a sudden he’s worth $5 million.’’
Lincoln Falls cruises to the lineTrainer Lisa Latta may now look at a $40,000 special conditions race at Hastings on October 6 for Lincoln Falls, a soft option which would continue the learning curve for the colt.
Street would love to see Lincoln Falls make it to Riccarton on November 10 for the $500,000 Two Thousand Guineas, a race for which his odds have been slashed from $35 to $12 second favouritism behind Sword Of Osman.
While Street has enjoyed big race wins before, like Fort Lincoln’s win in the 2011 Karaka Million, it’s a few years since he has had a real topliner.
“Lincoln Blue looked like a superstar but after we sent him to Chris Waller in Sydney he did two tendons. He had 12 months off but went again and I ended up selling him for $25,000 to New Caledonia where he stands at stud.’’
Street earlier sold Prince Hareem for $800,000 and Johnny Lincoln for $750,000 as well as President Lincoln to Hong Kong where he won two races and HK$4.1 million before going in a tendon.

“I’m hoping the rain stays away as it’s not an overly strong field and we have Jonathan Riddell back on. We will look to get a bit of cover and see if he can finish it off. His work has been really good, and I could not be happier with him. He looks fantastic and is a really happy horse. The changes we have made to him and his routine have made a huge difference so hopefully he can reflect this on raceday as he is at the stage where he needs to show something.”
