Copy N Paste a ‘tradesman’ but look for bold debut run at Cambridge on Thursday night

Lincoln Farms’ trainer Ray Green calls debutant Copy N Paste “tradesman-like” but says he has shown enough to be competitive at Cambridge on Thursday night.

Green’s wife Debbie bought the brother to former top filly Spanish Armada for $30,000 at the 2024 yearling sale and will race the gelding with John and Lynne Street.

Copy N Paste has progressed well, without being spectacular but, now three, Green says he is ready to step out on racenight.

“He’s dour and tradesman-like but he’s getting there,” Green said.

“It’s his first time off the place, and the trip will improve him, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him competitive in what is a very weak field.”

Drawn well in two on Thursday night, driver Maurice McKendry looks sure to secure a nice trip for the horse, giving Green plenty of hope for a good showing.

“Sometimes you don’t know what the Bettors Delights have got until they front up at the races but he trialled well and beat a couple who are against him on Thursday.”

Copy N Paste certainly has the breeding to feature, his dam Galleons Supreme being a half-sister to New Zealand Oaks winner Cheer The Lady (11 wins).

Hitting sulky wheels

Lincoln Linda had an excuse for running last at Cambridge on April 23 but Green says he is still unsure how she’ll go in the fourth race.

The filly over-raced badly when hitting the sulky wheels, something a longer cart will ensure is not repeated.

“I’m not sure where she’s at. It’s a big drop in class - there’s not much in there - but I don’t think she’ll morph into a star.”

Lincoln Linda found the Sires’ Stakes Semi too hot two starts back when winner Ripples paced a 1:53.1 mile rate. But before that she was run down only by the talented Soul Artist after leading from gate two.

She moves in to six on Thursday with the early scratching of Sea Of Love.

Lincoln Maree, likewise, could be forgiven for running only fourth behind Bettor Belle last time on April 16 when she paced roughly intermittently and around the home bend.

“We’ve done a bit of (vet) work on her since then so she should be happier this time,” Green said.

“It depends on the trip she gets (from four) but she’ll go an honest race. She’s no superstar, but she doesn’t miss many cheques.”

Lincoln Maree’s last-start fourth stacks up quite well against her opposition, considering she was just 2.4 lengths behind Bettor Belle who posted a 1:55.2 mile rate.

Her main rival, drawn inside her, looks to be the Mark Purdon-driven two-year-old filly Eternal Perfection, a Young Guns heat winner.

Thursday night at Cambridge

Race 4: Lincoln Linda
6.38pm

“I’m not sure where she’s at. It’s a big drop in class - there’s not much in there - but I don’t think she’ll morph into a star. She was hitting the sulky wheels last time and over-racing but that won’t happen again.”

Race 6: Lincoln Maree
7.36pm

“She paced roughly last time but we’ve done a bit of work on her since so she should be happier this time. It depends on the trip she gets (from four) but she’ll go an honest race. She’s no superstar, but she doesn’t miss many cheques.”

Race 8: Copy N Paste
8.45pm
