Jot down Lincoln’s Kruz in your little black books - he’s a real Kruz liner

He’s got a name now - and it’s worth highlighting in your little black book.

Racegoers will know him as Lincoln’s Kruz.

Around Lisa Latta’s stable they call him plain Kruz.

But whatever you call the Kuroshio two-year-old, he’s sure to make headlines judging by the way he scored at today’s Levin jumpouts.

A $150,000 ready to run buy last November, Lincoln’s Kruz had only two rivals in this heat but he treated them with contempt.

First out of the gates, he led the whole way for Robbie Hannam to score by two and a half lengths.

Lincoln’s Kruz ran the 850 metres in 48.77, finishing on the outside quarter of the track, which was made heavy by a lot of overnight rain.

The time was easily the fastest of eight heats run at 850 metres, including those for two-year-olds, three-year-olds, maidens and open horses.

Hannam said the gelding won very well and even seemed to be waiting for the other horses.

Kuroshio … had blistering early two-year-old speed.The win followed Lincoln’s Kruz first jumpout on February 20 when he finished a comfortable second over 650 metres, again doing everything right.

Latta says she will see how he comes the gallop before deciding on his next outing which could be in a trial at Foxton on March 26.

Lincoln’s Kruz, who will be raced by Lincoln Farms’ John and Lynne Street, Ian Middleton and Jeff and Vicky Roach, is bred to show up at two.

Kuroshio, a son of Exceed And Excel, had blistering early two-year-old speed and made a big impression with his first European crop, the eldest of which are three.

He is out of Myskina, who is a half sister to the speedy Miss Kournikova, who numbered among her five wins the Group I Oakleigh Plate.

Lincoln Farms also had success in the three-year-old heat over 1000 metres with Lincoln Town who was too good for five rivals including Lincoln stablemates Lincoln Lane (third) and Lincoln Green (fourth).

Lincoln Town, also ridden by Hannam, jumped to the lead, trailed across the top, and kept up a strong gallop.

“Robbie said he too was waiting for the other horses but he won well,’’ says Latta.

“It was good to see him show something and he is obviously looking for off tracks.’’

Lincoln Town had been unplaced in three earlier trials last year.

His time today of 58.77 was excellent given they raced very wide on the track and only one of the other six heat winners went faster, Star Quality clocking 58.62 in an open heat. Talented four-race winner Rayas ran 59.91 in her heat.

Lincoln Lane, ridden by Zinjete Moki, settled right behind the pace in fourth and he stuck on well up the straight for third.

“We will look to find a race for him at the end of the month.’’

Latta says Lincoln Green (Tim Johnson) will need another jumpout and will head back to Levin on April 3.
