Platinum Attack serves notice on classy Proisir Plate rivals with runaway trial win

Platinum Attack looked right on target for a fresh-up tilt at the $400,000 Proisir Plate at Ellerslie with a runaway win at the Foxton trials on Tuesday.

Instructed by trainer Lisa Latta to give Platinum Attack a strong workout, Bruno Queiroz had the six-year-old possied up behind the pacemakers Pacific Princess and Perfect Test before sliding up three wide to dispute the lead 500 metres from home.

Angled wide to the outside fence, Platinum Attack quickly sprinted clear and, ridden right out, scored by five lengths over Sunset Boulevard.

The effort, just 17 days out from the big sprint feature at Ellerslie on September 5, thrilled Latta.

“He trialled up very well,” Latta said. “I wanted him to have a decent hitout obviously looking to go to the Group I fresh-up, and with it being over 1400 metres, and Bruno’s given him that.

“He’s pulled up really well from it. He had a nice little blow so has still got improvement in him.

“I’m really happy with where he’s at and his summer coat is just starting to come through.”

Queiroz told Latta Platinum Attack was “perfect”, felt “very, very well” and despite pulling a bit, travelled strongly and ran home well.

Platinum Attack, the winner of eight races and $446,285 for Neville McAlister and Lincoln Farms’ owners John and Lynne Street, has yet to score over 1400 metres, his only two attempts at Te Rapa in the last two editions of the BCD Sprint, when sixth in 2026, after being three wide with no cover, and seventh in 2025 after an interrupted run in the home stretch.

He has not raced since April when he closed off his five-year-old season with explosive Listed wins in the Lightning at Trentham and City Of Napier Sprint at Otaki.

Bookies have Platinum Attack equal fifth favourite at $14, with Well Written, First Five, Alabama Lass and Crocetti heading the all-in market.
