Put a ring on the calendar around November 23 - the day Lisa plans to debut Lincoln’s Kruz
Promising three-year-old Lincoln’s Kruz is likely to debut at Awapuni on November 23 after scoring another easy trial win at Foxton yesterday.
The Kuroshio colt sat outside the leader in his 1000 metre heat and edged ahead close to the line to score by head in 60.95, one of the fastest times of the day.
Rider Robbie Hannam reported Lincoln’s Kruz travelled well all the way. “I niggled at him the last bit but he still won really nicely.”
Trainer Lisa Latta labelled Lincoln’s Kruz a very promising galloper and said she suspected he still wasn’t 100% happy after injuring a foot when he pulled a shoe and stood on the toe clip a couple of months ago.
Despite that Lincoln’s Kruz was able to win a Levin jumpout in fast time last month. “He’s doing all this on pure ability at this stage but I don’t want to run him ‘til he’s 100% right.”
Almo Street hinted he could be in for a good campaign when he finished a close second for Holly Andrew in his open 1000 metre heat.
“He went super,’’ said Latta. “He jumped out with them and settled second last before running home well.”
At the post, Also Street was only a head behind stablemate The Rippa, clocking 61.16.
Andrew said she let the horse jump out of the gates on his own and settle where he was happy.
“I asked him to lengthen a bit in the straight, which he did, and I was very happy with his trial.”
Latta says Almo Street is still carrying a fair bit of condition so will run in another jumpout before he resumes.
Benny Lincoln, still one-paced but better.Benny improves
Latta was pleased with the improvement shown by Benny Lincoln to run third in his 1000 metre heat.
“Robbie felt he was a little one paced but it was a far better trial on a better track.”
The winner Punta Mita clocked 60.97, with Benny Lincoln one and three-quarter lengths away.
“I will now aim him towards Wanganui on November 30 for a 1340 metre maiden.”
Platinum Touch ran fourth in the same heat, after settling in the one-one for Tim Johnson.
“She didn’t seem happy when the other horses came around her and I will add a hood to her gear.
“I will just see how she comes through the trial and work her in a hood before making a decision on where we should head with her.”
Platinum Spirit … looking to get up over ground.Platinum Spirit trialled in a four-horse 1400 metre heat, finishing two lengths third to old campaigner Sampson and stablemate Chartwell.
“I thought he was much better today and is now looking to get up over ground. He settled last before Robbie brought him to the outside and found the line well.”
Latta will now look for a suitable race for the colt on an off track in the next fortnight.
Latta has selected a race on November 23 at Awapuni for Lincoln’s Gal to resume in after she made up ground in an open 1000 metre heat won by Credit Manager.
“She got back from the jump but made up ground in the straight to be only around three to four lengths from the winner.”
Unraced Zed colt Demetrias showed little in his 1000 metre heat, won by a Proisir colt with Gary Vile.
“He jumped and sat third but kept going at the same pace and ran last. He is still learning his trade and is a bit dumb.
“I will trial him again over a longer distance.”

Lisa’s comments
Saturday at Trentham
Race 2: Platinum Tyche
1.05pm
“This is a big drop-back in class for her as her last two races have been very strong rating 75s. The track at Otaki was particularly wet and she just didn’t handle it. She has come through that run in fantastic order and is very bright and well. She shouldn’t be too far off the leaders from the good draw and I expect her to bounce back to form providing we get a decent track.”
Race 8: Platinum Attack
4.43pm
“He drew the outside barrier in this race last year and has been dealt the same card again. He couldn’t be looking any better though and his work has been phenomenal. He is right where he needs to be to win a race like this. We are going to need some luck from the draw but Craig Grylls knows him well now and I thought that he is certainly one of the better horses in the race. If he gets clear air at the right time then he will finish with a big run.”
