The Streets enjoy another $42 dividend - this time with the up-and-coming Lincoln Green

Never mind the form, when you see a Lincoln Farms horse paying $42 you simply have to be on.

When Lincoln Green scored an upset fresh-up win at Awapuni yesterday in the hands of Robbie Hannam he paid $42.30 on the tote.

Uncannily, the last time owners John and Lynne Street celebrated a longshot winner at the gallops was when trainer Lisa Latta bagged the $1 million Karaka Million at Ellerslie in 2011 with Fort Lincoln - and his winning dividend was $42.30.

The Lincoln Farms $42 guarantee isn’t confined to the gallops either. When the Street’s smart four-year-old pacer Besotted downed the big guns in the Group I Taylor Mile at Alexandra Park in 2014, he was at very long odds too - and paid exactly $42.

Despite going to the post well in need of the run, Hannam says Lincoln Green was surprisingly relaxed.

“Sometimes he’s on the toe and all excited but yesterday he looked a picture in the birdcage and paraded really well. He didn’t sweat up, he was really happy, and took everything in his stride.”

It was a 180 degree change from the last time Lincoln Green raced - at Otaki in May - when Hannam says he was “a mess.”

“He was sweating up and nervous and in the running he had a heart fibrillation.

“That’s when we tried to ride him in behind but I think he needs to express himself and roll along.”

Yesterday Hannam allowed Lincoln Green to stride forward from his wide gate and trail stablemate and leader Platinum Wild Card.

When eased out to challenge turning for home, Lincoln Green quickly went up to Platinum Wild Card and the pair waged an epic battle all the way down the home straight, Lincoln Green edging ahead only in the final 50 metres.

“That’s why I think he’s going to make a good stayer. He has speed and he just keeps maintaining it. He didn’t slow down or speed up but went the same pace all the way down the straight.”

Hannam likes the fact Lincoln Green can race on the pace - “You’ve got less to do at the finish and you don’t get interfered with.”

Hannam was agog at he price Lincoln Green was allowed to pay yesterday given he scored a similarly brave win on debut, refusing to be headed, and his second run was in a stakes race at Te Rapa when he wasn’t mentally or physically ready for a big trip away.

“He’s slowly growing up and maturing and, going forward, yesterday’s run was very good.”

A four-year-old by Ferlax, Lincoln Green cost just $28,000 as a yearling and is out of Sophia’s Dream who notched three wins and four placings from only 12 starts.
