This one’s a Lazy Lincoln but he can win on Thursday with Robbie going to Town on him

Trainer Lisa Latta would love to have claimed off Lincoln Town at Waverley on Thursday in the wake of what happened to him last time.

But while getting weight relief from his top weight of 58.5kg might appear the answer, he’s so lazy, Latta fears he’d have his way with an apprentice.

Lincoln Town looked home for all money last start at Woodville when he shot clear turning for home and kept kicking strongly for rider Robbie Hannam.

But in the shadows of the post, barely 10 metres from the line, he was gobbled up by the fast-finishing favourite Bae Corp, ridden by talented four kilo claimer Bridie Ansell.

With Lincoln Town lumping 58.5kg to Bae Corp’s 52.5kg, it was mission impossible holding off the challenger. Bae Corp has since franked the form just going under in a four-way photo finish at New Plymouth last Saturday.

While Lincoln Town might look an easy ride, sailing along up front, he takes a bit of cajoling to get there and Latta is keen to keep Hannam on board, now that they have clicked.

The one positive is that none of the obvious dangers to Lincoln Town will be utilising apprentice claims on Thursday and main threat Shakespeare has 56.5kg with Lisa Allpress the confirmed rider.

Latta believes Lincoln Town will be hard to catch on Thursday from a good six draw - he had 18 last time - and says he has continued to work well.

“And the track should suit him - I don’t think we’ll be getting much more rain.”

The only time Lincoln Town has been out of the money in five starts this prep was at Trentham when a deep bog brought him undone. The going on Thursday is expected to be no worse than a slow 9.

“He’s still immature. He’ll be a better horse next autumn. But I don’t think he’ll go on good footing. He hasn’t shown much on good tracks.”

PHOTO: Royden Williams.Platinum Bordeaux has only six rivals in race two, for maiden fillies, but Latta suspects she might find the 1100 metres too short.

“She’s a nice filly but we’re more using it like a trial to get her ready for the fillies’ race at Wanganui on September 7 (the $50,000 O’Leary’s Stakes).”

Platinum Bordeaux hasn’t raced for two months when she staged a big recovery for fourth at Waverley after being hampered 400 metres after the start.

Her previous run was in the Listed Castletown Stakes (1200m) when sixth to Flaunting and She’s A Lady.

“Her work has been good and I expect her to be finishing on strongly into the money.”

Manhattan Street reverts to flat racing in the second race only to keep him ticking over until he tackles a hurdle race at Ellerslie on Saturday week.

“But the track won’t be wet enough for him. He needs it loose.”

Manhattan Street was pulled up two fences from home in his last start over steeples at Riccarton. He moved into the race quite nicely at the 1000 metres but hit a fence and went down on his heels quite badly.

“He’ll need to be strapped next time he jumps.”

“He’s working really well. I’ve just been waiting for a bit of rain. He’s reasonably fit but this is really just a run round. He won’t be disgraced but a mile (1650m) is not his go and I‘ll be happy if he runs midfield.”
